The citizens of New Lenox are very concerned about the proposed acquisition of the EJ&E railroad by Canadian National (CN). The location of the rail line runs directly through the middle of thee town cutting the village in half from north to south. Blocking the rail tracks for long periods of time, which will be inevitable with the CN plan, will prevent anyone on the south side of town from getting to the hospital or receiving emergency services across town. I have a 93 year old mother-in-law who would be isolated on the wrong side of the tracks" if she needed emergency hospital services. There are many senior citizens who live in that same area that would also be affected. The new LW West High School will be located right beside the tracks. The increase in trains will cause increased air pollution that will affect students using adjacent playing fields. If CN needs to move rail congestion from Chicago, they are free to do so, by purchasing right-of-ways from farmers in rural land about 40 miles to the south of all these affected Chicago suburban communities. Of course, this will cost them additional money, but their tracks would actually be a more direct route to their distribution center in Tennessee. Most of us are having a very hard time stomaching having to bear the inconvenience, danger and disruption to our communities in order to save a foreign business some money."
