Dear. Ms. Johnson-Ball, I am writing in regards to Docket Number 35087. Recently, I attended the public hearing regarding the CN purchase of EJ&J line and wanted to register my comments. I am extremely concerned that the impacts of the sale are not being taken into account. As a resident on Hough Street in Barrington, I see evidence everyday of roads that have too much traffic and present a public safety hazard. My child must cross this street everyday. Although she uses a crossing guard and there is a light, when drivers are stressed out and trying to neat the next train or the red flashing lights, they often proceed without caution and over the speed limit. I see accidents on a weekly basis and my tree in the front of my yard evidences scars from cars trying to stop too fast and swerving out of the way of traffic. Additionally, public safety vehicles have a difficult time during peak traffic getting through the village. I can see bottle necks stopping the vehicles of hindering them causing increased time that may be needed to safe both life and property. Proper mitigation that would safe guard my community has not been proposed. I believe that CN would like the tax payer to take responsibility. However, the current economic crisis is likely to be funded by the tax payer and city and state municipalities will have little in their coffers to cover the huge cost to make our rail road crossings safer and to find answers to traffic problems. All in all, I would say we have a perfect storm here. This storm can be averted and damage mitigated if the STB moves not to approve the sale based upon the negative environmental impacts.
