Dear Ms. Phillis Johnson-Ball, I am writing as a private citizen to voice my opposition to CN railroad purchase of the EJ&E. I know I represent every American taxpayer, already overburdened, as I oppose having to pay for ANY costly remedies which will be present if this controversial purchase goes through. The U.S. is in dire economic trouble as evidenced through the current meltdown in the stock market, and the complete lockdown of the credit markets! The U.S. taxpayers simply cannot be expected to foot the HUGE bill for remedy and mitigation that CN railroad refuses to pay. I find it appalling that CN would expect American taxpayers to foot the bill for their own benifit!! This foreign entity will cost AMERICAN JOBS with this purchase, while at the same time sucking American tax dollars for railroad route improvements that would be needed. PLEASE, you, the members of the Surface Transportation Board are American taxpayers just like the rest of us, and it would simply be wrong to have us shoulder this large financial burden to the benifit of a very profitable foreign company! And yes, this purchase will most DEFINITELY have a very negative impact on the communities along its path. It will very much have a Berlin Wall" effect, splitting in half, town after town, and will have negative financial consequences in all of these towns, notably retail, resedential, commercial, and EMERGENCY services, all of which will be cut off from one another with unacceptably limited road access due to rail traffic. I know I speak for tens of thousands of taxpayers along this corridor as I plead with you to examine these issues very closely. Plain and Simple, this proposed purchase is a bad deal, which if forced upon us, we will regret as a large population, for generations to come. Thank you for reading my comments.
