I am writing to express my concerns about the impending purchase of the EJ&E railroad lines by the Canadian National Railway. My concerns are: there will be many more trains going through our village, longer trains will cause major traffic congestion and tie ups (we already have traffic back ups without having more and longer trains causing bigger back ups), the safety of our citizenry will be jeopardized as people move through and about our community due to more and longer trains, the village will be cut into small segments leaving only one major access route through the village as Plainfield has only one split grade crossing with about 13 other crossings being at the street level,and Plainfield is a crossroads of State Route 59, State Route 126 and U.S. Route 30, a big financial burden would be placed on our community and other communities in the area to try to build more split grade crossings to make the crossings safer (we cannot afford the kind of expenditure needed to make these crossings above grade level), emergency vehicles will have difficulty getting through the village in a timely manner,thus, jeopardizing the safety and health and welfare of people in our community, the traffic problems of Cook County will be moved to Will County communities that are not prepared to handle the kind of transportation problems which this sale would create (Cook County communities already have safeguards in place for this train traffic and now Canadian National is trying to move the train traffic to Will County which will create many more problems. I see major problems with this sale, and, thus far, I do not perceive that the Canadian National Railroad is willing to help the affected communities pay for split grade crossings or other measures to ensure the safety of the citizenry affected. For these major reasons I urge the Surface Transportation Board to reject the sale of the EJ&E tracks to the Canadian National Railroad. Thank you for reading my comments. Eileen Diercks
