We are submitting these comments to express our strong opposition to the purchase of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E) by the Canadian National Railroad Company. If this purchase is allowed to take place, the increased daily train activity will have a negative impact on the City of Aurora’s quality of life and economic development. As it is, our family is currently awakened between 1:00 a.m. and dawn by the rumble and warning horns of numerous trains traversing their route - we have sometimes counted four or five trains a night. Adding more train traffic will be very unwelcome and will adversely affect community safety, traffic and property values. Grade crossing mitigation will be enormously expensive and a large burden to us - the local taxpayers. We respectfully request that the proposed purchase be denied. Thank you.
