As a bus driver for First Student, serving the Plainfield School District 202 of Illinois, I find it rather disturbing that anyone would foolishly approve the purchase of EJ&E by CN. The impact of increasing mean number of trains from 16 per day to 42 trains per day (ref: Tom Cross September 11, 2008 letter) would cause unimaginable delays in getting students to school in a timely manner. The impact would force drivers to anticipate a 10,000 foot train, creating a hazardous environment. In addition, idling diesel engines would increase by approximately 3 times what we already must idle. This is just the incidences. With essentially 2-mile trains, the increase would be closer to 12-times more exhaust; in an era where we are trying to reduce the emissions. The Traffic in Chicago may be reduced, but outrageously increased in the collar counties and suburbs.
