The worst impact of the proposed CN acquisition of the EJ&E line would be to the children, sick people and the elderly. Not to mention the various safety issues which should be very obvious to all, the additional time involved in crossing the rail tracks will be a major hazard for all with absolutely no benefit to any of the residents. The children will have to spend additional time on the bus waiting for the multitude of trains - each lasting at least 5 minutes. The emergency vehicles will take longer to reach. When there was a fire in our neighborhood a few months ago, the fire department took 14 minutes to come to the scene for various reasons including train crossing. This is when there is just 4-6 trains per day. One can only imagine the delays when there is gong to be 5 times as much. It is more important to put people and their needs first.
