I would like to voice my opposition to the acquisition of EJ&E Railroad by CN Railroad. I live in Plainfield, IL approximately 500 feet away from the railroad tracks. My children attend school on the other side of the tracks. We moved into this house knowing we were close to the tracks, but we also knew that the trains did not go by all day and all night long. Plainfield recently initiated a no-whistle zone. Before that, the train whistles were very disturbing, and as a light sleeper, I would wake up for every freight train, including Sunday morning at 6 a.m.. Now, we might have a huge number of trains going through our area at all times of the day and night, and that would greatly reduce our quality of life. I grew up in Schiller Park, IL, attended school in Franklin Park, IL, so I know all about train congestion and disruption. The people that live in the towns that are for this acquisition have lived with the trains...moved to that area KNOWING that the trains are there. Here along the EJ&E line, we moved here knowing that the train traffic is minimal with little interference to our quality of life. I oppose this acquisition as a mom, a homeowner and a citizen of Plainfield. I do not want freight trains rumbling through my backyard, affecting our quality of life, the ability of emergency services, the schools. The school buses have to cross the tracks two times every day! In an emergency, I do not want the freight trains clogging up our roads. This acquisition may be in the better interests of our suburbs closer in, and the Canadian Railway, but it's not in the best interest for those of us that moved along this train line. Isn't it more important to have happy citizens, than a happy foreign railroad? Our family moved out here from the NW side of Chicago. We moved to this subdivision, because this was a nice, affordable house in a very nice area. We do not want to turn these nice quiet suburbs into another congestion, loud Franklin Park. That's not what this area was intended for. Thank you.
