RE: STB Finance Docket No. 35087 Canadian National Railway Company and Grand Trunk Corporation - Control - EJ & E West Company I am a resident of the Village of Wayne, Illinois through which the EJ & E rail line extends. I wish to state my strong objection to the proposed purchase of the EJ & E West Company by the Canadian National Railway, and to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. My concerns with the this document are the following critical items need to be addressed: 1) No regard to the impact of heavy rains impeding the vehicular traffic navigating around 10,000 foot trains blocking Army Trail Road and Smith roads concurrently when Powis and Munger Roads are closed due to flooding conditions. This occurrs on a yearly basis (August of 2007 and September of 2008). Many of our neighbors were trapped in our peninsula" which is surrounded by the EJ&E, Union Pacific, and CN Railroads. This is an extremely dangerous life safety concern. 2)The impact on the native wildlife. It appears the traffic volume has increased on the EJ&E line this past summer. We have not seen any deer or other similar wildlife in our backyards. This used to be a weekly, if not daily occurance. We have also noticed the train horns blasting away when approaching Army Trail and Smith Roads are so loud that birds and other small animals fly away and "run for cover." This small recent increase in traffic can only magnify this situation with an increase of 5 times the amount of train traffic. We would appreciate you considering these items in your final report. Thanks Jeff Gutowsky"
