I am opposed to allowing increased Railroad traffic through the town of Frankfort. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles must cross the tracks on a regular basis. With only about six trains a day currently passing through Frankfort, this has hardly been a problem, but if an increase of twenty-eight trains a day occurs, this is going to be a lot bigger issue than the Draft Environmental Impact Statement seems to realize. The people who wrote the Draft Environmental Impact Statement believe that trains will go 45 miles per hour through Frankfort so that gates are only closed a short time. Presently trains pass through Frankfort at perhaps 15 to 25 miles per hour not the 45 miles per hour that the Draft Environmental Impact Statement states, making real time blockage of the crossings over twice as long as the Draft EIS suggest. Such delays in emergency response times for life threatening calls could result in deaths or substantial loss of property. All the projected benefits aren’t going to mean anything to a family who loses a family member or home because blocked crossing delays created by increased railroad traffic delayed critical medical or emergency services. If nothing else, please reconsider this issue in your final EIS and I hope you make the CN build new fire stations all along the tracks to ensure the safety of the residents of Frankfort.
