This is a protest against the CN running more freight trains through the Barrington/Lake Zurich area. To get into the town of Barrington on Rt. 59, there is an EJ&E track as well as a Metra track. On Northwest Highway, just west of Rt. 59, there is an EJ&E track and on Lake Zurich Road heading towards Rt. 14, another one – this, in effect, surrounds and isolates the area. The entire village of Barrington would be devastated by the increase in backup traffic due to the trains going through. To get to Lake Zurich, on Cuba Road, there is another EJ&E track, as well as one north on Ela entering Lake Zurich, thereby eliminating the chances of getting to Lake Zurich in any timely fashion. I am also agreeing with safety comments previously made by others about ambulances going to Good Shepherd Hospital, school buses and school safety issues, kids walking to school and church, fire trucks coming from the Fire Department in town. The timing on the above would be dangerous, to say the least. This proposal affects business, economic and living conditions in this area, destroying the community. Barrington has long been known for its rural nature and country living – that’s why people live here. Naturally, the communities whose trains would be reduced (and for how long would their trains be reduced??) are in favor of this proposal. Moving freight through the Chicago area should not come before destroying suburban community areas.
