Ours is one of the many families in the Barrington, IL area that harbors serious concerns about the planned Canadian National Railway Company's acquisition of the EJ&E West railroad. While we live in the village of Tower Lakes, several miles north of the railroad, we drive across the tracks practically everyday for these reasons: - Our children are part of the extended 4th and 5th grade classes at Hough Street Elementary School which lies in the heart of the Village of Barrington, on the south side of the tracks. - My husband and I work for Motorola's Schaumburg facility, also located well south of the railroad track. - Our children's music lessons and sports activities take place in the Barrington village area. The impact of 30 freight trains running daily on the railroad causes significant adverse impacts to many families like hours and to populations in Barrington, Aurora and several other neighboring towns. This is not to mention to impact that the large increase in rail emissions will have environmentally-sensitive wetlands that we treasure dearly. On behalf of the Barrington community which nurtures us, and in the face of the chorus of voices singing of our well-founded fears, we hope hope you will reject Canadian National's proposal to acquire the EJ&E railroad.
