The thought of Canadian National increasing freight traffic 400% or more through Barrington, Illinois frightens me no end! I am a senior citizen and area resident for more than four decades. The EJ&E line that CN wants to purchase is between my home and the Barrington paramedic station. Increased vehicular traffic congestion resulting from more and longer freight trains will mean serious delay in medical response. The cost of mitigation necessitated by the increased freight traffic would pose a crushing burden on local residents, the state and federal governments. At this time of national financial crisis this certainly is not the prudent action to take. The Surface Transportation Board must take situations like these into serious consideration when assessing the impacts on Barrington and all the other communities along the proposed route.
