As a resident of Barrington, Illinois for the past forty-four years I have the most serious concerns for the future of the Barrington area if Canadian National Railroad is allowed to purchase the EJ&E Railroad. In reviewing the Surface Transportation Board Draft Environmental Impact Statement, I see little regard for the negative impacts that such a sale would have on this and all other communities along the EJ&E route. The Surface Transportation Board must consider these impacts more thoroughly and require mitigation requirements. Even if the Canadian National purchase should be disapproved but CN were allowed to run its projected 400 to 500% increase in freight traffic over EJ&E’s track, the impact on all aspects of life in the affected communities would be devastating.
