I want to register my opposition to the proposed acquisition of the rail line purchase by Canadian National Railways which runs through the community in which I live. If there were a way to proceed with the purchase which enabled all the rail road level crossings to be altered to allow either under passes or bridges built at Canadian National railways expense or for there to be a realistic sharing of those expenses, then there would I believe be less opposition. As it stands the proposed purchase does not include any benefits to a huge community’s safety. There are thousands of children who travel across the tracks everyday and in particular there are high school children driving to school across the track everyday. I personally am appalled that somewhere along these negotiations Canadian Railways have not offer to or been required to think about the value of human life over the value of their trading profits. I realise that business has to be allowed to buy and sell in order to be able to trade and I am not a “not in my back yard” person, but until I see that all the parties involved in this proposed transaction are prepared to behave in a responsible manner and seriously think about the effects on human life, I will continue to be in opposition.
