We would like to express our objection to the purchase of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway by Canadian National Railways. Since we live about 1/2 block from the train tracks, the noise from the increased train traffic would affect us directly. Also, due to the fact that the train tracks cross every north-south street in town, our commute to any destination would be delayed most of the time, due to the fact that the average train crossing would be greater than once per hour. However, our most important concern is the availability of emergency services. All of the fire and police stations in town are to the north of the tracks; we live to the south of the tracks. Therefore, any emergency services that we, or the rest of the residents of the town to the south of the tracks, would need would have a very great chance of being delayed due to train traffic. It is very upsetting to think about how many lives may be affected or lost due to emergency vehicles being stuck at a train crossing. We have been advised to contact you with our concerns, and it is our greatest hope that the comments and concerns of the leaders and citizens of our community and our surrounding communities will be taken seriously into account as this purchase is considered. Thank you for your attention to our concerns.
