Comment EI-12010

Received or sent (printed as 9/18/2008)

Allowing the CN to purchase the EJ&E and increase the train traffic thru our community will completely paralize our town. the track run right thru the middle. We already have 110 trains go thru our town on daily basis between the commuter and freight and the introduction of 15+ freight trains a day will be devasting. CN stands to greatly profit from this purchase. The traffic thru the city of Chicago can handle this but our small towns cannot. If CN is allowed to make this purchase and they must be forced to completely pay for underpasses and over passes to ease the impact on the communities. This is their responsibility, not the government. They are the ones that will make all the money from being able to move more freight quickly. Without the capital improvement, there would be a need to build additional fire houses, hospitals / emergency care facility, and police. This is the only way the entire city and surrounding area can be safe when the enormous freight trains are tying up traffic.
