STB Finance Docket No. 35087, Canadian National Railway Company and Grand Trunk Corporation Control-EJ&E West Company. I am opposed to the CN-EJE acquisition for several reasons. First, because of the additional noise and additional traffic congestion that will be caused by the large increase in the number of trains on a daily basis. We live close to the tracks, as do many other residents, and are already wakened during the night by the trains. We are already affected by the long traffic tie-ups. There are also retirement communities nearby. Increasing train traffic to the maximum possible will dramatically increase these problems. Secondly, I see a serious concern with impacts on essential public services (police, ambulance, fire engines, and neighborhood school busses that have to cross this line). Thirdly, I believe there will be increased risk in terms of public safety, not only because of problems for essential public services, but also risk associated with accident, hazardous materials, and chemicals. I understand Canadian National Railway does NOT have a good safety record and this heightens my concern. As a final comment, I think if the CN plan is approved, Local Governments (and their TAXPAYERS) will be burdened with many 100’s of millions of dollars in projects to try to alleviate the negative impacts of the huge increase in train traffic and citizens like us will also suffer loss in property values. I urge the Surface Transportation Board to reject this proposal. Robert F. Hynes
