As a citizen, consumer, and a supply chain professional, I would like to go on record as supporting the CN purchase of the EJ&E Railroad. From a macro sense, this purchase makes tremendous sense as you look at the efficiencies it gives the CN to bypass the congestion of the Chicago railroad maze while bringing freight to Memphis, New Orleans, and Eastern cities via interline railroads. At some point, we have to look at the common good vs. an individual or minority position. Isn't that why we allow eminent domain land purchase? Think of all the fuel savings, congestion savings in Chicago, and speed to market this solutions brings to the CN. Goods from Canada and Asia can speed past Chicago, with minimal disruption, to their final destinations and save the cargo owners multiple days in transit.
