Phillis Johnson-Ball Surface Transportation Board 395 E Street, SW Washington DC 20423 Re: Finance Document FD-35087, the acquisition of the EJ&E railroad by the Canadian National Railroad. Since I recently had to be transported to the Emergency Room for a heart problem three times in one week, I can attest to the need for prompt response and treatment by the Village Paramedics. However, if my home had been located a couple of blocks to the south west, on The Other Side of the Tracks", I might not be alive to send this E-mail. Twenty-two freight trains per day commonly block the tracks for 20 to 30 minutes at a time and often longer, cutting of emergency services to a large portion of the village. This is not acceptable! They also frequently park trains for hours (sometimes for over twenty-four hours) within 50 feet of homes. I can only imagine the health impact of three to eight 1,500 HP locomotives idling that close to homes, a high school and a day care center not to mention the effect of hundreds of cars and trucks waiting at the crossings 22 times a day. This is not acceptable! I have also observed on numerous occasions, grade and high school age children crawling over and under trains standing on the crossing to get to school and day care particularly during inclement weather. This is not acceptable! I realize that this acquisition will move these problems to another area but those areas have significantly less population (1.4 million rather than 4.1 million) and the density of homes and schools near the tracks is far less. We therefore urge you to approve the acquisition of the EJ&E railroad by the Canadian National Railroad. Respectfully Submitted, Mr. & Mrs. Dennis W.
