Re: Candadian National Railroad (CN) purchase of EJ&E Railroad As a resident who lives in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois and is separated by the EJ&E track from our fire station and ambulance emergency center, I would very much appreciate it if you take this kind of scenario in mind, as my example is only one of thousands that would be impacted by an increase of rail traffic on this line. In the case of us who live here in Hawthorn Woods, the emergency vehicles would have to travel an additional 4 miles to reach our nearest main road intersection. This rail system was never intended to absorb hourly freight trains. CN argues that they need the EJ&E line to off set the crowded conditions on other tracks. You and I would have to had just fallen off the back of a watermellon truck to blieve that. CN is a growing company. They are increasing their port facilites in British Columbia to take on additional freight, and they now need additional tracks to absorb that activity. One has only to look at their historical performance to see their pattern of growth. They have absolutely no intention of reducing the volume of traffic on any of their other lines. The purchase of the EJ&E fits right into their plans for expansion. I urge you to vote against the purchase of the EJ&E by CN. In advance, thank you for your consideration.
