FD 35087 · CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILWAY COMPANY AND GRAND TRUNK CORPORATION--CONTROL--EJ&E WEST COMPANY

Comment EI-10406

Received or sent (printed as 9/4/2008)

The acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern (EJ&E) Railroad by the Canadian National (CN) Railroad must not be approved by the Surface Transportation Board (STB) – Finance Docket No. 35087. To allow this merger would allow one of North America’s most unsafe railroad companies to increase rail traffic in a well populated and environmentally sensitive area of Northern Illinois and Indiana by 500% or more. A review of operational and other incidents that have occurred over the past year clearly shows what a poor steward of the environment and neighbor CN really is!! STB’s approval of the proposed acquisition will only benefit CN and not safety or overall rail efficiency. STB must vote “NO”!!
